CV

Cody Rutty is an American painter based in San Francisco. Born in Pocatello, Idaho, he has sustained an independent full-time studio practice for nearly two decades, with work moving between drawing, painting, and densely built visual systems.

The first marks are often broad, instinctive, and structural. What follows is slower: an extended process of finding, editing, and intensifying what has appeared. The work draws on music and architecture, treating line as rhythm and the surface as a structure still in formation.
